Many people have private health insurance, whether a personal plan or one that an employer has taken out on their behalf. Whether you are staying on our Inpatient Unit, receiving support from our Community Team or Hospice at Home team, or attending our Wellbeing Centre, Princess Alice Hospice may be able to request a donation from your insurance company.

If you’ve received support from Princess Alice Hospice and have private health insurance, we can ask for a donation from your insurance provider. It won’t cost you anything and we can sort it all out for you.

If you have any questions please contact Claire Woodward in our Fundraising Team at [email protected]  or take a look at our Private Health Insurance leaflet.

FAQs

Do I have to pay for Princess Alice Hospice care?

No. All our care is provided free of charge.

Why ask for private health insurance details?

Many people have insurance through work or personally. Some insurers make a donation to the Hospice when their customers receive our care—whether in our In-Patient Unit, at home, or in a care home.

If you have insurance, we can contact your provider (with your permission) to ask if they’ll contribute. This costs you nothing and helps us continue providing care.

Why do insurers donate?

When a patient receives our care, insurers avoid the cost of treatment in a private hospital or NHS private unit.

How much do they donate?

Often around £200 per night for In-Patient Unit care, depending on the policy.

Over the past 10 years, insurers have donated £73,000. Contributors include Aviva, Axa Health, Bupa, General & Medical, H3 Health Insurance, PHC, SAGA, The Exeter, Vitality and WPA.

How can I help?

We need your insurer’s name, your policy number and your consent. We then request the donation on your behalf.

What do I do next?

Complete the form online or fill in the paper form and give it to a member of staff. We’ll contact your insurer directly.

What do you say to the insurer?

We simply confirm that their customer is under our care and request a donation.

There is no obligation, but any support is truly appreciated. Every contribution helps us continue offering compassionate care.

Princess Alice Hospice is a community-founded charity committed to outstanding care for patients and families at home and in the Hospice. Our work costs £12.3 million a year, and around 80% of our income comes from supporters. We can’t prevent death, but we strive to make the end of life as good as it can be.
