Day or night, we’re there when we’re needed
Today, 90% of our care takes place in the community, in people’s own homes, delivered by our Hospice at Home teams, Rapid Response Team and Night Response service. Together, these teams help to care for around 800 people at any one time. They work seamlessly, sharing expertise and ensuring care continues around the clock.
“I just wanted to get in touch to pass on my heartfelt thanks to Ruchira. So many people were involved in our journey throughout my late husband’s illness, but she was especially brilliant. Her kindness, support, and compassion meant the world to us both. I will be forever grateful that we were lucky enough to have ger guide us through this awful time.”

Demand for our care is growing rapidly
We are currently only able to reach one in three people in our care area who need us. While demand continues to rise, the NHS funding we receive still covers only a small proportion of what it costs to deliver our free services.
It costs Princess Alice Hospice £12.3 million a year to provide our exceptional care.
Our Night Response Team plays a vital role
Between 10pm and 8am, seven days a week, our Night Response Team provide urgent support, they also provide night sits. This is when a member of the team arrives in the evening and stays through the night, ensuring a patient is comfortable and monitoring their needs closely. For families and carers, it offers the chance to rest, knowing their loved one is safe and in expert hands.
Christophe’s notes offer a glimpse into what a night shift can look like and what it means for families when someone is there whenever they need us most.
“Ruchira is a very unusual lady, she is gentle and kind, she never pushes, she’s utterly charming, you feel a warmth that’s very relaxing. I’m easier with people, but John felt completely comfortable with her immediately… She does a really wonderful job.” – Patricia
