A space for carers to connect
As we mark Carers Week, Princess Alice Hospice is inviting carers to join our weekly coffee morning – an informal opportunity to connect with others who understand the realities of caring for a loved one.
The Family and Carers Coffee Morning takes place every Thursday from 10:30am to 11:30am in the coffee shop at the Hospice in Esher. It is open to anyone supporting someone with a life limiting illness. No referral is needed, and carers are welcome to drop in whenever they can.
At Princess Alice Hospice we recognise that life-limiting illness affects the whole family, whatever “family” looks like and provide support not only to our patients but to those close to them.
The importance of connection is reflected in Larry’s story, which we’re sharing during Carers Week. When Larry’s wife was living with a life-limiting illness, he became her carer and faced many of the challenges experienced by carers every day. Through Princess Alice Hospice, he found practical support, understanding and meaningful connections that helped him feel less alone.
Family and Carers Lead, Liz, attends the coffee morning each week and offers support, resources and signposting to local services for carers.
Liz says:
“The coffee morning is my favourite time of the week. It’s an informal chance to catch up with family members and carers over a hot drink and a piece of cake. Sometimes we help people find information or solve a problem, and other times we simply share a laugh or a cry. The best thing is seeing people connect with others who understand their experiences and helping them feel less isolated.”
This June, we’re also celebrating our Month of Connection, with a range of groups, events and activities designed to bring people together, please do check out our calendar of events.
If you’re caring for a loved one and would like support, advice or simply a friendly chat, we’d love to welcome you to our coffee morning.
