Read on to find out more about Jo’s busy role as
Head of Digital Platforms and Technology

How would you describe your role in one sentence?

My role is to support a great digital team and work closely with Hospice teams, making sure technology supports them to deliver high quality hospice services.

Can you give us a potted history of your career so far?

After college, I started work as an office junior at a publishing and events company (with a clear nudge from my mum to have a job by the end of summer 😉). I stayed for over five years, gaining experience across different roles, but as family and home life became more important, the overseas travel lost its appeal.

While working in fundraising and marketing at an independent school in Elmbridge, I completed my Diploma in Marketing, before spending time in the business world building experience in databases and marketing, including a role with an IT support company.

Whilst working at another hospice, I was inspired to join Princess Alice Hospice, where I started in the Fundraising team as Supporter Experience Manager.

I feel incredibly lucky to be in my current role – it brings together everything I enjoy, and I genuinely love my job and the amazing people I work with every day.

How long have you worked for the Hospice?

November 2025 marked my 10 year anniversary at the Hospice and I can’t believe how quickly the time has gone!

What three words would you use to describe Princess Alice Hospice?

Compassionate. Professional. Impactful.

What do you think other people would be surprised to know about your role?

My role is more about people and relationships than technology, making sure that colleagues have what they need to do their jobs to the best of their ability – I really value working with my team, colleagues and suppliers to ensure colleagues can focus on what matters most.

What personal qualities do you think you need to do your job?

I need to be approachable, listen and be supportive, working closely with people and making sure technology helps them do their jobs well. It’s exciting to know there are ways we can contribute to reaching more people who need our care by giving colleagues the tech they need to do their job more efficiently.

Who have you learned the most from since starting work at the Hospice?

I’ve learned the most from the many different people I work with across the organisation – in the Hospice and out in our shops. Listening to staff and volunteers to understand their different needs has helped me see how important it is that technology works well for everyone.

The digital world moves so quickly that there’s always something new to learn. When a question comes in that we’re not completely sure about, my team and I take the time to explore it together, do the research, and come back with a clear, well informed answer. It helps us all keep learning while making sure we’re supporting people in the best way possible.
