Our rolling programme is open to anyone who is supporting someone with a life-limiting illness, patients do not need to be under the care of the Hospice.

The sessions are held on Tuesdays from 10am-12pm and provide a series of discussions on coping with the emotional and practical challenges that carers may face when someone close to them is unwell.

The series includes sessions with a Senior Palliative Care nurse and staff from our Enhanced Support service, where you can ask any questions you may have about caring for someone with a life-limiting illness. It’s a chance for you to get together with others who may be in similar situations, to share concerns, tips and ideas.

The sessions run concurrently with our social morning at the Wellbeing Centre so that carers, whose loved one is under the care of our Wellbeing Team, can attend while patients are at this session.

The next series starts on 15 September 2026. Each week we will look at a different topic, including:

  • Supporting someone who is seriously ill. Living well: eating and drinking, days out and away
  • Coping with emotions when someone close to us is seriously ill – including a short mindfulness practice with our Senior Healthcare Practitioner
  • Aids and adaptations to make everyday life easier
  • Planning for the future
  • Practical care: hints and tips for caring for someone at home. Facilitated by the staff of our Enhanced Support Service
  • What to expect when the person becomes less well – with a chance to ask a Senior Palliative Care Nurse any questions
  • What next? (coming up with personalised ideas to support you and the person you are caring for)

Please email our Wellbeing Team on [email protected] if you are interested. You will be contacted prior to the series starting and provided with more information.

We also hold a Family and Carers discussion group online which provides an opportunity for those who might find it difficult to get to Princess Alice Hospice to meet with others supporting someone with a life limiting illness. This takes place on Wednesdays at 10am-11am.

The group is informal and the topic for discussion each week will depend on the needs and preferences of those attending. The patient need not be under the care of Princess Alice Hospice. Please contact us at [email protected] if you are interested so we can send you the link to join.
