Read on to find out more about Beck's very busy role as Philanthropy Officer in our Philanthropy Team.

How would you describe your role in one sentence?

I build trusted relationships with people who kindly donate £5,000 or more and work to identify how we can connect their generosity to what the people we support need most.

Can you give us a potted history of your career so far?

Rebecca smiling at the camera at her deskI’ve worked since leaving school at the age of16. I’ve done so many different things, from a decade spent delivering hands-on patient care at St George’s Hospital to being a nationwide sales rep, from working as a paralegal to running a grassroots music venue  and putting on festivals! All these roles have been great learning experiences and have prepared me for my role now at Princess Alice Hospice.

How long have you worked for the Hospice?

I’m just about to hit my 3 month anniversary and have enjoyed every moment so far!

What three words would you use to describe Princess Alice Hospice?

Hope, peace and unity.

What do you think other people would be surprised to know about your role?

Major giving is rarely done with a ‘big ask.’ It’s usually gentle, relationship-led, and often starts with listening and forming a bond with the person to find out more about why our organisation is so important to them and their motivation for supporting us.

What personal qualities do you think you need to do your job?

Warmth, curiosity and good listening, and you need to be organised, thoughtful with communication, and consistent with following up with people you’re working with.

Who have you learned the most from since starting work at the Hospice?

Michelle and Amy in the Philanthropy team and, honestly, all colleagues across the Hospice who’ve shared insight, stories, and their experience so generously with me.
