Volunteering vacancies

Our volunteers give a little time to make a big difference in vital roles at our Hospice, in the community and in our charity shops. Give a little time… make a big difference.

Whether you can offer a few hours, a regular half day or would be interested in supporting a short term project, there are many ways for you to give your time, skills and energy.

Whether you can be a friendly face greeting visitors at reception, offer support to patients in the community, give time as a charity shop volunteer, or a much valued driver taking patients to and from Hospice appointments – it will be very rewarding.’

I’ve been volunteering for 10 years and love it. I’ve made some great friends and get to feel like I’m making a difference.

Christiane, Ward tea volunteer

  • Hospice Neighbours Read more

    Location: In the community

    About the role

    • Could you offer support to someone nearing the end of their life?
    • Could you give their carer a much needed break?
    • Do you have a few hours to spare each week?

If you have answered yes to all these questions then you may be the person we are looking for to join us as a Hospice Neighbour.

We are looking for volunteers throughout our catchment area which extends from Staines to Hounslow, Richmond, Kingston, Walton and Dorking.  Volunteers must be able to commit to a minimum of four hours a week offering emotional and practical support to our patients and their carers.

These are some of the ways our volunteers support our patients.

    • Befriending – perhaps reminiscing with them about the past, talking about their worries and of course having a joke or two!
    • Helping around the house – making a sandwich, hanging the washing out, collecting a prescription or preparing a shopping list
    • Taking the person out for a drive or to appointments and helping with shopping.

Volunteers will be supported with a programme of training and ongoing group supervision from the Princess Alice Hospice Team.

    What our volunteers say…

“Every Saturday morning I visit Kath and Frank and take them out, they look forward to our outings as they have no transport of their own.

“It’s lovely seeing them enjoy short walks as they met as ramblers. They enjoy a pub lunch, as do I, and it’s been fun to discover new places with them. There’s never a pause in the conversation.

“I am a lifelong volunteer and really enjoy supporting others who are less able than myself, enabling them to do things they wouldn’t usually be able to.”

    Julie, Volunteer
