Care through the night appeal

Please help someone spend their final nights at home

Please help someone spend their final nights at home

Supporting families at home is at the heart of what we do. Princess Alice Hospice at Home gives our patients access to the high quality, compassionate care they need in the place they most want to be. The service brings the skills and expertise of our team of highly-trained professionals straight into a patient’s home and gives them, their family and their carers access to the vital support that is needed at this difficult time.

A vital part of this service is our Night Nursing Team. Looking after someone with a life-threatening illness at home is exhausting. Our Night Nurses provide families and carers with a much-needed overnight break. Staying by the patient’s side from 10pm to 7am, our nurses work from pre-prepared care plans, based on their detailed knowledge of the condition. They can also respond quickly to any changes in the patient’s needs. You can read more about a typical night for one of our Night Nurses here.

In the year 2015-16, our Night Nursing Team enabled the following:

  • 355 night sits, ensuring that patients were cared for through those hours of darkness.
  • 614 hospital admissions were prevented by visiting patients in their own homes.
  • 2,086 night response visits, meaning those patients who needed immediate attention received that critical support
