If you're someone who doesn’t want to access our traditional support services, but would like someone to talk to whilst working on hands-on projects, then The Shed might be the place for you.
Conveniently located on the Hospice grounds, with local businesses donating wood and equipment, The Shed was opened in June 2016, and has since had hundreds of people attend its sessions.
Attendees, who may be patients, relatives of patients or bereaved, can make an item for themselves or a loved one, or make items that might be sold to raise funds for the Hospice. The primary aim of The Shed is to be a place to talk with others about anything and everything. No previous woodworking skill is necessary.
All sessions are free and we offer taster sessions. Following this, attendees are offered at least 16 weekly sessions with the chance of an extension should capacity allow.
The Shed provides an alternative to more formal support, and allows people to come together and spend time with people in similar situations. It also creates an opportunity for people to learn new skills. There is no pressure to talk about anything if you just want to get on with your woodwork.
The Shed is open on Tuesday-Friday. To find out more or book a taster session, please email [email protected]

The Shed is open Tuesday-Friday at the following times:
- Tuesday am/pm (ladies)
- Wednesday am/pm (men)
- Thursday am/pm (mixed session)
- Friday pm (mixed session)
Am sessions are 10:30am-12:30pm
Pm sessions are 1:30pm-3:30pm
The Shed has helped to generate income for the Hospice, raising thousands of pounds through selling products made by the ’Shedders’, including Christmas decorations, chopping boards, bird boxes, hedgehog houses and much more.

“Coming here a couple of times a week, it makes things easier for me”
