QELCA© – Quality End of Life Care for All

QELCA is an innovative programme which gives a team the skills and confidence to offer high quality end of life care in a general setting.

This course is designed for teams working together to enhance end of life care in their own work setting. A team could be made up of people from different professions, or the same, who work together in a specific environment such as a care home, GP practice, or acute trust.

The programme consists of a five day placement at Princess Alice Hospice in Esher. Over the five days, participants will be able to observe work in our inpatient unit, community or day hospice. This clinical experience will be supported by teaching sessions and discussion on the practice that has been observed. Following the five days, there will monthly Action Learning Sets, taken over a six month period. These will be at the team’s workplace and will offer an opportunity to put into practice an action specific to their setting.

‘It’s definitely a team as a whole, as a building, as a business. There’s a lot of working together, there isn’t a lot of division. There’s lots of good communication, good camaraderie and an openness to discuss things’.
