About the role

Operation Night Owl is our new recruitment campaign which is focussed on building and growing our outstanding night team; caring for patients in the hospice and in their homes.

We are currently looking for experienced and versatile trained staff with excellent communication and interpersonal skills to join our existing Night Nursing Team.

Operation Night Owl has something for everyone; we are offering an exciting opportunity to work in the In-Patient Unit (IPU) and/or the Community Night Nursing Service. The successful post holder will be expected to work flexibly across all our services to meet the needs of our patients including those who wish to remain at home. Occasionally this role will involve driving to a patient’s home to watch over and care for them overnight.

This position will also provide the right candidate with the opportunity to rotate within the Night Nursing service gaining both in-patient and community experience. Our aim is provide flexibility to both you and our service whilst ensuring more people achieve their preferred place of care. You will work closely with the Night clinical Lead to support the specific developments within the commissioned projects across our catchment area.

All trained staff must have experience of working within a team on an In-Patient Unit and/or in the community and be able to demonstrate evidence of commitment to developing skills and knowledge in specialist palliative care. Experience of supporting and caring for terminally ill patients is also essential.

About the role

We are looking experienced staff, either nurses or paramedics, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills to join our team. You will work closely with the Clinical Leads, including the Night Lead, to support specific developments within the team aimed at ensuring more people achieve a peaceful and comfortable death in their preferred place of care.

Experience of working within a team on an In-Patient Unit and/or in the community is desirable, however candidates with experience of supporting and caring for terminally ill patients in other settings will also be considered. You must be able to demonstrate evidence of commitment to developing skills and knowledge in specialist palliative care.

We offer a flexible approach to rostering and we will consider part-time applications; early, late, twilight shifts are available, however please note that night shifts are currently a mandatory requirement of the position (usually 2-3 per month pro rata).

About the role

Princess Alice Hospice, Esher (Surrey) has 24 inpatient beds and looks after nearly 900 patients in the community at any one time.

We are looking for a ST2 / ST3 Level Development Post in Palliative Medicine to join our medical team at an exciting time; the Hospice having been recently rated as outstanding in all 5 domains by CQC and also having just embarked on an ambitious 5 year strategy to ensure palliative care is delivered to more of those in need within our catchment area of nearly 1 million people.

The Hospice is proud to have a particularly robust medical department, with 7 Consultants and currently 9 Trainee or Specialty Doctor posts. Equally, our strong multi-professional working ensures high quality patient care remains at the centre of the hospice’s approach.

This means the doctor will be supported to work to high standards and will be provided with numerous opportunities to develop. For example, the Hospice hosts the European Certificate in the Essentials of Palliative Care and PANG4 (network guidelines); it runs monthly Schwartz Rounds and has a strong clinical ethics committee.

The doctor will be able to play a key role in the clinical care of both inpatient and community patients and will be able to contribute more widely to Hospice services including teaching, audit and research. With satisfactory progress, it is the expected that at 6 months the post holder will move up into a Specialty Doctor post for the remaining 6 months. After 12 months, a substantive post is likely to be advertised.
