The Hospice Night Nursing Team care for patients on the IN Patient Unit (IPU) and the Community Night Nursing Team can respond to patients in part of our catchment area when they need it most, this can either be through our Night Response Service visits or ‘Night Sits’ whereby our nurses remain with a patient and their family overnight.

In addition to core professional training and development opportunities, the Hospice provides a comprehensive specialist post registration development package, up to and including Masters Level Accreditation.

Operation Night Owl is focussed on building and growing our outstanding night team; caring for patients in the hospice and in their homes.

We are currently looking for an experienced and versatile Staff Nurse/Practitioner with excellent communication and interpersonal skills to join our existing Night Nursing Team.

Operation Night Owl has something for everyone; we are offering an exciting opportunity to work predominantly in the In-Patient Unit (IPU) but to support the Community Night Nursing Service in the future. The successful post holder will be expected to work flexibly across all our services to meet the needs of our patients including those who wish to remain at home.  In house training will be provided to successful candidates.

This position will also provide the right candidate with the opportunity to rotate within the Night Nursing service gaining both in-patient and community experience. Our aim is to provide flexibility to both you and our service whilst ensuring more people achieve their preferred place of care. You will work closely with the Night Clinical Lead to support the specific developments within the IPU and the commissioned projects across our catchment area.

All trained staff must have experience of working within a team on an In-Patient Unit and/or in the community and be able to demonstrate evidence of commitment to developing skills and knowledge in specialist palliative care. Experience of supporting and caring for terminally ill patients is also essential.

A new post has been created to support our existing physiotherapy input to the In-patient unit. We are looking for a Band 5 physiotherapist with post-graduate experience of ward based care who can use core physiotherapy skills to promote enablement, rehabilitative palliative care and maximise the functional ability of people with life-limiting illnesses.

You will be supported by a Band 6 physiotherapist and have wider support of the multi-professional therapy and ward-based team. You should be committed to working in a holistic manner with flexibility, innovation and strong communication skills necessary to fulfil this role. Registration with the HCPC is essential and working for us allows you continued access to the NHS pension scheme.

Experience of working within a team on an In-patient Unit and/or in the community is desirable, however candidates with experience of supporting and caring for terminally ill patients in other settings will also be considered. You must be able to demonstrate evidence of commitment to developing skills and knowledge in specialist palliative care.
