15 July to 15 August 2020

Get on your bike this summer, and raise funds to help us ensure our Compassionate Care Continues. Ride London may not be happening but we have our own version.

Wherever you choose to cycle, you have the flexibility to set yourself the challenge that is right for you.

Route options:

  2. 50 km Challenge (minimum sponsorship £300 pp)
  3. Teens/Family Challenge (suggested sponsorship £100 pp)

Freestyle Fundraising - 29 July 2020

Make a difference, however, wherever, whenever | View on map

We’ve loved seeing how our supporters have found that silver lining, and embraced the opportunities that lockdown and social distancing have presented by fundraising in new and innovative ways. You could do the same! You could fundraise for the Hospice with a new challenge, an existing hobby or interest, or by helping others.

Whether its a 100km cycle, a garden party or completing a marathon over the course of a month! The beauty of Freestyle Fundraising is that you can do any challenge you like, wherever you like and however you like all while raising funds to ensure our compassionate care continues.

Click here to see how Julian chose to support us….

Wherever you choose, you don’t even have to leave the house!

2.6 Challenge - 31 July 2020

The 2.6 Challenge is a simple and fun way for everyone to do their bit to help save the UK’s charities. | View on map

Supporter Care 01372 461808 or supportercare@pah.org.uk

Registration is free

Encouraging supporters to raise £100 minmium, however there is no fixed sponsorship target

The 2.6 Challenge is a simple and fun way for everyone to do their bit to help save the UK’s charities.

This is a challenge for all ages and abilities. All you need to do is think of an activity based around the numbers 26 or 2.6 that suits your skills and complete it on or from Sunday 26 April. This could be something as simple as pledging to run 2.6miles as your daily exercise to doing 26 minutes of yoga, or juggling for 26 minutes (or maybe just 2.6 minutes) non-stop.

Check out the ‘how to get involved’ page  for more ideas and inspiration. And don’t worry if you’re not able to get out your house or flat for now – you can do your 2.6 challenge anywhere inside too! There are no rules, apart from the Government guidelines on how to exercise safely during this time. Whatever you can do, you can be a part of it – the main thing is to get active, have fun and pledge whatever you can to help save the UK’s charities.

Remember to use #PAHTwoPointSixChallenge when you post your challenges!

Imagine being able to do the highest Skydive in the UK, whilst harnessed to a professional freefall parachute instructor and at the same time being able to help Princess Alice Hospice! Stop imagining; it’s real and it’s happening throughout this year and you can be part of it.

Why not jump on a special day, a big Birthday or in memory of a loved one? We have dates available throughout the year. For some inspiration, watch this video of our brave supporter Tony Skydiving for the Hospice on his 80th birthday.

The maximum weight for a tandem skydive is 18 stone fully clothed and there are no upper age limits but if you are aged 16 or 17 you must be accompanied by an adult.

Virtual Death Cafe - 18 August 2020

7.30pm

Zoom meeting – call in from the comfort of your home.

A chat about death over coffee and cake might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it could get people talking about a subject that is still taboo for many. In our Death Cafés we aim to empower communities with the knowledge, skills and confidence to engage with death, dying and loss.

Here’s what one attendee, Sue, had to say about her experience:
“Death is part of life and affects us all, yet it largely remains a taboo subject. Attending the death cafe has given me the chance to discuss and learn from others and consider how I feel about my own wishes for the end of my life and to express those to my family. It is a positive, interesting experience and feels very safe to chat about death which you can’t do anywhere else”.

Virtual Garden Show closing date - 31 August 2020

1 July to 31 August 2020

Share your home-grown havens!

At this time of year, many people throw open their gardens to the public – allowing their hard work to be seen and enjoyed by many in aid of charity. It’s also the time of year where thousands of people flock to Chelsea or Hampton Court to enjoy the flower show.

We know how hard some of you have been working in your gardens and would love to give you the opportunity to showcase the fruits of your labour and you could win a gift voucher for either Garsons or for our shops – as well as giving us the opportunity to raise some funds to fund our Compassionate Care Continues appeal.

We’d love to see your garden or patch of oasis – big or small – wild or manicured – vegetables or verbena – roses or rustic.  Or if you have worked on a community project and volunteered to make a place for others to enjoy – we would love to see those too.  For all the budding junior gardeners who might have had spent some extra time whilst school has been out helping with the garden or growing their own plants – now is your time to shine and show off your green fingers!  We have 10 categories and you can enter as many as you like:

  1. Best volunteer garden (somewhere used for others’ enjoyment but maintained by volunteers)
  2. Best ‘Good Life’ Garden (vegetable patches/allotments)

We are exceptionally lucky to have this beautiful venue which is a large open space, fully secluded and fully closed off from the general public.

As a thank you to the NHS, the theme of this years race is Rainbows of Hope.

A firewalk is the most inspirational journey you will ever undertake. It is as the name suggests: a bare foot walk over red-hot wood embers measuring around 800 degrees. No tricks, no special effects. Just you and the fire. The decision to walk across the coals is dramatically life changing. Not because you have decided to firewalk in itself, but because you have consciously decided not to let your fear inhibit your actions. Once you take the power away from fear, there is really nothing stopping you. After all if you can walk safely across hot coals what else is possible?
