Delivery of high quality end of life care in care homes and by home care providers is a national priority. The number of people requiring these services will be growing in the future and it is important that providers have staff trained to deliver end of life care and systems in place which support residents and clients to feel supported and experience their last months, weeks and days in the best way possible.
The Six Steps Programme is based on the National End of Life Care Strategy (2008) which underpins the development of services and education programmes.
We offer a programme which will mirror the six steps outlined in the National Strategy and which will allow your organisation to implement systems, to improve resident/client experience and provide evidence to the Care Quality Commission (CQC) that you are delivering end of life care which is safe, effective, caring, responsive to people’s needs and well-led.
The course provides the opportunity for up to three key people in your organisation to attend workshops and video conferences to learn about end of life care, to review your organisational systems and to build a resource of evidence to demonstrate quality care. The application to attend the course must be made by the Manager or Owner of the service who will be fully informed of content and progress.
The course will run for 16 weeks with opportunity for ongoing updates following completion.
Week 1 Visit to home
Week 2 Full day workshop at Princess Alice Hospice
Week 5 Videoconference
Week 8 Full day workshop at Princess Alice Hospice
Week 11 Videoconference
