The beauty of Art in life and death.

Tim Dolby

James started volunteering in our Princess Alice Hospice coffee shop, in gratitude for the care his late husband, Tim, received before he died under our care in May 2022. During his lifetime, Tim had built a successful career as an artist and the couple’s mutual love of Art continued to inspire them right up until the end of Tim’s life.

In Tim’s final hour, James talked to him about their time together on one of their favourite beaches in Costa Rica and opened the doors for Tim to hear the early dawn chorus. Inspired by a painting that was hanging in the room, he described the scene on the beach and the memory of them running in and out of the sea together. Tim died shortly afterwards.

In March James will be unveiling a retrospective exhibition of Tim’s Art at Walton upon Thames’s Riverhouse Barn venue. The exhibition runs from Wednesday 26 March – Sunday 6 April, 10am to 4pm, with free admission and no need to book ahead.

We are extremely grateful that 20% of proceeds from the sale of paintings sold during the exhibition will go to Princess Alice Hospice.
