We know that loneliness makes people ill, both physically and mentally, but sometimes it can be hard knowing how to help somebody who’s struggling. It can be difficult knowing what to say or do, but with the right support most of us can help people connect with others in their community. This is where TLC – Talk, Listen, Connect comes in, an initiative we’re launching at Princess Alice Hospice in conjunction with Compassionate Communities UK.

Compassionate Communities UK is a national charity, established in 2016.  Their mission is to transform life and death through the healing powers of compassion and community. As part of this, they have launched their ‘Talk, Listen, Connect’ (TLC) campaign, with the aim of supporting as many people as possible to take part in TLC workshops, building their skills and confidence making a difference in their community, workplace and neighbourhood.

At any moment, 20% of people say they feel lonely, yet we can all act as connectors. Through becoming an TLC connector, it is possible to bring back and nourish a sense of belonging. The 90-minute workshops include discussion on how to be supportive of someone who is grieving, the role of TLC connectors, how we can all be part of this and how the impacts of doing so resolve problems of loneliness and isolation.

Everyone who attends, receives a badge, to show they’re part of the movement.

Princess Alice Hospice is delighted to be partnering with Compassionate Communities UK to deliver these short TLC workshops for anyone in our local community who would like to become a TLC connector – you don’t need to have any experience or connection to the Hospice. We’ll be launching the workshops later this year.

Do you want to be part of a compassionate movement?

If you’d like to register your interest in joining one of the workshops, let us know on [email protected] and we’ll contact you as soon as we have dates available.
