I’m Martin Osborn and I’m Head of Operational Services at Princess Alice Hospice. We like to treat everybody like Royalty every day of the year. As we all begin to look forward to the bank holiday to commemorate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, find out what it will take to keep things running smoothly at the Hospice over the four-day weekend:

– There’ll be 12 nursing handovers and a number of people on shift in the in-patient unit, which means that there’ll be over 80 uniforms for our Housekeeping team to wash.

– We’ll have 21 shifts being covered by over 15 Reception and Coffee Shop volunteers, who’ll be here to welcome and serve refreshments to our visitors.

– 140 clinical waste bags will be disposed of.

– All toilets at the Hospice will be cleaned 3 times a day and we have 17 communal toilets.

– Each patient room will be cleaned thoroughly each day by our Housekeeping team.

– 144 meals will be cooked by our Catering team and served to people on our in-patient unit; approximately 175kg of produce will be cooked during this time.

– 220 visitor and staff meals will be cooked and afternoon tea will be served on Sunday – this is a smaller number than usual, due to fewer colleagues working over the bank holiday weekend.

– 6000sq m of floor surface will be hoovered and mopped by our Housekeeping team.

Out in our communities, our shops have been busy creating beautiful Jubilee-themed window displays for people in our care area to enjoy. We hope you enjoy your own Jubilee celebrations this weekend.
