Did you know that donating through Gift Aid means charities like Princess Alice Hospice can claim an extra 25p for every £1 donated and it won’t cost the person donating a penny extra?

Signing up to the Gift Aid scheme is simple and can be done in any of our shops, or by post. There’s a simple form to complete, telling us the donator’s details and tax status; as a charity, we can claim the tax back on any donated items that are sold in our shops or on any cash donations that are made.  We have one form for shop donations and one for cash donations.

It doesn’t cost the person donating anything, but it could make a huge difference to the Hospice. We process approximately 160 Gift Aid forms every week, so it really does add up.

In the financial year 2022-2023 we were able to claim more than £850,000 of Gift Aid on donations we received and almost £600,000 of that amount came from goods donations made in our Retail shops. This amount is enough to cover the cost of over 5,000 Hospice at Home nurse visits. These visits are invaluable to those we care for who want to be cared for at home in the place they know and love.

In the same year, Gift Aid from cash donations was enough to cover the running costs of our In-Patient unit for over two weeks.

So far this financial year, 2023-2024, we’ve been able to claim more than £600,000 in Gift Aid, which includes approximately £400,000 from shop donations.

Director of Income Generation, Angela Grimes said: “Gift Aid makes an enormous difference to our income, helping us support those we care for when they need us most. Whether th

at’s on our In-Patient Unit, through our Hospice at Home team visits, the Wellbeing Centre sessions or any of our Bereavement Services, it’s a simple process for donators that allows us to continue with our work and doesn’t cost the taxpayer a thing.”
