We are incredibly fortunate to have the support of over 1,300 dedicated volunteers at Princess Alice Hospice, which is approximately three times the number of paid staff: to put it quite simply, we couldn’t do it without them.

This June, Volunteers’ Week will commemorate its 40-year anniversary, which coincides with our own focus on 40 years of volunteering; these two milestones together give us the perfect opportunity to double up on the celebrations.

Throughout May, we’ll be sharing celebratory content on our social media channels and launching a new weekly podcast series, ‘A conversation with’. We’ll hear stories and memories from longstanding volunteers and fascinating insights into how the Hospice has changed over time. You won’t want to miss it.

You can listen to our first conversation with the Volunteering team now, with episodes to come from Jane Formby MBE, Gill and Eddy the PAT dog, Jane P, volunteer for 39 years, Lynne  and Antonette!

Our first conversation is with Jane, who has volunteered for 39 years and Gill, who along with her PAT dog Eddy, brings comfort to people on our In-Patient Unit each week.

Ingrida started with us as a shop volunteer and has now progressed to being our Volunteer Recruitment Manager.  Listening to her describing her reasons for volunteering is truly inspiring.

We’ve spoken to Jane Formby MBE, who has been involved in the Hospice since it all began. Today, Jane is Honorary President of Princess Alice Hospice and a dedicated Friend. These interviews will be coming soon.

Our history is a fascinating one and people from all walks of life have been involved with our evolvement since it all began. Our Volunteers have been alongside us every step of the way.
