Books Beyond Words at the Hospice
Our first Books Beyond Words event at the Hospice was filled with ‘joy and inclusion’
As part of our ongoing quest to be inclusive to all, w
e were thrilled to host our first Books Beyond Words session at the Hospice recently, when we welcomed friends from Active Prospects, Surrey Choices and Hounslow & Richmond Community Healthcare for a wonderful narration of ‘Ginger is a Hero’, a word-free picture story.
We now have a collection of Beyond Words’ books available in our Library and we’ll be holding Princess Alice Hospice Beyond Words book club sessions regularly throughout the year. Beyond Words empowers people with learning disabilities through pictures. Everyone knows pictures can be more powerful than words. Being able to ‘read’ the things we see is how we know a green light means go, or that a smile means someone is happy to see us.
Colleagues from different areas of our organisation came along too and we’ve received some fantastic feedback since:
“I just wanted to thank you and the team for the wonderful experience yesterday; I thoroughly enjoyed Beyond Words and all the interactions.”
“I don’t think I’ve ever been in a session that had such joy and inclusion.”
“Well! Wasn’t that an amazing and powerful event!”
