Find out more about Floss' busy role as Quality Officer at the Hospice.

How would you describe your role in one sentence?

My role as a Quality Officer is varied, with a main focus on service user feedback and patient resources, alongside supporting work such as CQC submissions and keeping key reports up to date.

Can you give us a potted history of your career so far?

I worked in retail during college and university, before joining Nikon in their sales and operations team. After a while, I fancied a change of scene and joined the Clinical Administration team here. A couple of years ago, I took on a role at Kingston Hospital in the Medical Examiner Office, so I currently balance both roles.

How long have you worked for the Hospice?

I’ve worked here for four years.

What three words would you use to describe Princess Alice Hospice?

Compassionate, dedicated, welcoming.

What do you think other people would be surprised to know about your role?

Volunteers play a really important part in my work. I work with a Quality Volunteer who helps to input surveys and collate responses, and I also liaise with Leaflet Review Volunteers who share valuable ideas and suggestions when we develop patient resources.

What personal qualities do you think you need to do your job?

Good attention to detail and organisation are essential, especially when meeting reporting deadlines. Flexibility is also important, as the role can be quite varied and sometimes involves picking up unexpected tasks.

Who have you learned the most from since starting work at the Hospice?

I learned so much from my Clinical Administration colleagues when I started – it was a completely new environment for me, and everyone was incredibly welcoming and generous with their time. I continue to learn a lot from my manager – everyone here has been supportive in helping me develop and grow.
