Social work and bereavement careOur Social Work Team plays a vital role supporting patients, their families and their friends. The team help with counselling, advocacy and give advice on practical and financial matters and works with patients and families, at every stage of their contact with the Hospice. The team works individually with carers and families, including children. They also run special children’s days and group sessions. If you would like to meet with a social worker, please speak with one of the nursing staff. The team manages a Bereavement Service supported by specially trained volunteers and led by a professional co-ordinator. Support is provided, to bereaved relatives through one to one counselling, bereavement groups, at monthly Bereaved Relatives evenings and a regular Wednesday afternoon Remembrance Service. "The care and support offered by the Hospice continues after the death of a loved one, the counselling offered to me and my son has been wonderful and of huge benefit to us. We attend the parent and children group, this is particularly beneficial for my son; it is one of the few places, he can come to and not feel special".Nick, a widower from Hampton
