John’s storyJohn Welch of Shepperton, receives care in his home from Alison, a clinical nurse specialist.
I can keep a sense of independence and have normality in my life. ![]() John shared his experience with us: ‘I receive a variety of excellent services from the Hospice; however, in my opinion the support from my community Princess Alice Nurse has been the greatest benefit. ‘Alison's relaxed, professional nature and the ease with which she explains complex issues, helps to calm me and put my mind at rest. She gets rid of the "medi speak", telling me in plain English. ‘On average, Alison visits me once a fortnight. She works closely with my GP, hospital and other healthcare providers, which is great as I know that everyone is made aware of my needs and the care I receive is consistent. ‘The support and advice she is able to provide to my wife is also vital and of great benefit, as she is able to discuss issues that are important to her. By attending a carers group my wife gains support from others in a similar situation. ‘The 24 hour telephone advice service "Careline" is a great comfort as well and, if I suddenly have a problem or my pain increases, I know I can make a call and receive advice straight away. ‘Having care and support provided to me in my home by Alison is wonderful; it means I can keep a sense of independence and have normality in my life.’ |
