Administration

Office Support

This is the behind-the-scenes work of keeping the Hospice running. Jobs vary enormously - for example filing, desktop publishing and various secretarial and clerical support duties.

Ward Clerk

We will require support in the evenings to take visitors to the Ward and carry out other administration duties for our nursing team

Reception

This is usually the first point of contact for anyone visiting or telephoning the Hospice. The desk is staffed from 08.30hrs to 21.00hrs weekdays in shifts from 2 to 4 hours. At weekends it is manned from 09.30 until 21.00. This is a very busy role particularly during office hours dealing with visitors and our switchboard. It demands a great deal of patience, tact and understanding.

Interpreters

Patients come from all cultures and races and occasionally language problems can arise. Our interpreters facilitate communication between non-English speaking patients and our medical staff.

Education Library

The Education Library is an invaluable source of information for all of our staff and volunteers, particularly the clinical staff and the bereavement counsellors. We also provide library facilities for the many students registered on courses run by the Hospice. Volunteers play an essential part in the running of the library.

Lesley Kennett – Receptionist

Lesley “I knew from my first visit I wanted to join the team of hospice volunteers, everyone was so friendly and understanding. I have been a receptionist for four years and no two days are the same. It is so rewarding to be able to make a difference I have made so many wonderful friendships here”
