Shop volunteers

All our shops welcome new volunteers.

Volunteering is good fun, very satisfying and can also improve your life skills and train you for paid customer service elsewhere.  Most companies like to see volunteering experience on your CV. Jobs carried out by volunteers include:

  • Sorting donated goods and selecting what will sell
  • Preparing goods for sale and ticketing and pricing them
  • Keeping the shop looking tidy, attractive and interesting
  • Serving customers, packing their purchases and operating the till
Our volunteers work in small teams and training is available where needed. All of our shops have a manager or visiting Area Manager to keep you in touch. We have meetings and 'thank you' parties for volunteers at the shops, in a nearby hall or sometimes at the Hospice.

"I have worked in the Epsom shop for over 17 years and from my point of view, the most important part of this work is meeting the public. Many customers come for a chat and a sympathetic ear. It is a privilege helping the newly bereaved sort out a loved one's possesions at a heartbreaking time in their lives. The shop volunteers also have a vital role, communicating with the public and raising the profile and knowledge of the Hospice's work, whilst having fun and making friends".
