Gift Aid boosts the value of your donated items by 28%

Say ‘yes’ to Gift Aid where you donate items to a Princess Alice Hospice Shop and we can claim back 28% tax from HM Revenue and Customs when we sell the goods.

How does it work?

Gift Aid can be claimed on donations of a sum of money. Where goods are donated to us, HM Revenue and Customs have confirmed that we can now sell the goods on your behalf and the proceeds from the sale can be donated to us under Gift Aid. If you say ‘Yes’ to Gift Aid by signing a declaration form we can claim an extra 28% of the value of your sold items from HM Revenue and Customs. We make this claim once we have sold the items collected from you and we have your consent to make the claim and use the proceeds to fund palliative care. We write to you to confirm we will be reclaiming Gift Aid on the value of goods sold. This is a HM Revenue and Customs requirement that we must follow for the claim to be valid.

Gift Aid Form

By completing a Gift Aid form you confirm that:

You are a UK taxpayer (you must have paid an amount of income or capital gains tax at least equal to the tax that we reclaim on your donations in the appropriate tax year (currently 28p for each Ł1 you give).
You wish The Princess Alice Hospice to act as your agent in selling the goods you brought into the shop.
You wish The Princess Alice Hospice to claim tax on all donations you make after the date of the declaration.

Once you become a Gift Aid supporter

We label the goods you donate to identify them as donated by you. Labels are scanned when goods are sold and the till records all items sold donated by you. We write to you periodically to let you know the value of goods sold and confirm that we will be reclaiming the Gift Aid on this amount. This letter or email is automatically produced by our till system keeping our administration costs to a minimum.

And finally…

We give you a card to identify you as a Princess Alice Hospice Gift Aid supporter. Produce the card each time you donate goods and it helps us to label them as donated by you. If you forget the card we can still produce labels if you give us your name and postcode. If you lose or damage your card we can issue a new one at any of our shops. You can request to be kept in touch with Hospice events and news when you complete a Gift Aid declaration form.
