Therapy team

The therapy team treats patients in the In-Patient unit, the Day Hospice and as out-patients. The rehabilitative aim within the palliative care setting is to help patients achieve their maximum potential and maintain it throughout their illness. The team assess, treat and advise patients and their carers on mobility, activities of daily living and other aspects of therapy intervention.

The Therapy Team also co-ordinates treatments of patients with lymphoedema.

Lymphoedema is a condition that cannot be cured and requires life long management to control symptoms, which if left untreated, would progressively worsen. Lymphoedema dramatically affects patient's quality of life.

The aim of treatment is to stabilise the oedema and empower the patient with the necessary skills to undertake self care. Four components of treatments are used to achieve this goal; care of skin, compression and support, lymphatic massage and exercise.

Complementary Therapy

The complementary therapies available to patients in the Hospice are: massage, aromatherapy massage, reflexology and hypnotherapy. These are offered as a means of communication, care and compassion nurturing body, mind and spirit. They can be especially helpful in relieving pain, anxiety, stress, and muscle tension.
