Hairdresser lends a fundraising hand to the Hospice

The Adidas 5K Challenge that takes place every year in Hyde Park has become a bit of a tradition for Patricia Collins, 46, Surbiton.  She ran for the 9th consecutive time in September and as usual she chose a local charity to raise money for.  She decided to support the Hospice following a request from a friend of her daughters; the young friend's mother had received care from the Hospice.  Her daughter Ellie from Hold Cross School, New Malden joined Patricia in the event along with her school friend Rosie Colledge.

Patricia is the owner of Expression Hair Kuts, Victoria Road, Surbiton and her customers, family and friends were very generous helping her to generate over £2,000 for Princess Alice Hospice.  Patricia and Ellie visited the Hospice and met with senior Staff Nurse Diana Malsher and handed over their sponsorship of £2,113.  This money could fund 24 visits from a community Princess Alice Nurse to a patient in their own home to provide specialist advice and support.

Patricia said:

'Each year I pick a local charity to raise money for and with Ellie's friend asking us to support the Hospice that cared for her mother, how could I say no?  It is a great cause and I know that it provides care for over 800 patients in the community, not just in Esher but in Surbiton, Kingston, Epsom, Weybridge, Leatherhead and many other places.  I could not believe that the team have to raise £5.47 million a year to provide all of the Hospice's services, I am very happy to have done my bit and to have helped them reach their target.'
