    About this role

    Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in Palliative Medicine to join the multi-professional team at our 28 bed Hospice. You will play a key role in the specialist palliative care team at Princess Alice Hospice, providing clinical care to patients in the community, joining a team of seven Consultants in Palliative Medicine. As needed, you will provide supporting cross-cover to the inpatient unit and the Day Hospice. This will include supervision of non-consultant grade medical colleagues. You will also contribute to the development of Hospice services, and the Hospice’s educational activities. You will take the medical community lead for the Hospice’s catchment area covered by North West Surrey and Surrey Downs CCGs, working closely with the Princess Alice Community Nurses to ensure a high standard of care is delivered, as well as further developing the Enhanced Support programme. You will deputise for the Medical Director as appropriate, and provide timely, direct liaison with GPs/community nurses after assessing unstable and/or complex patients in the community.

    Other duties will include: regular participation in audit activities, service evaluation and research projects; and representing the Hospice at appropriate local, regional and national palliative care and end-of-life care meetings.

    Applicants must provide evidence of full registration with GMC and licence to practice, as well as registration as a specialist in Palliative Medicine (e.g. CCT in Palliative Medicine, or equivalent).

    Though this is a full-time post, consideration will be given to appointment to a minimum of 8 or 9 Programmed Activities (over 4 or 4.5 days).

    About this role

    The Hospice is currently expanding our Hospice at Home team.

    We are looking for experienced and versatile nurses and health care workers with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You will work closely with the CNS’s to support specific developments within the team aimed at ensuring more people achieve their preferred place of care. You will support our core business but also support commissioned projects across our catchment area.

    You must have experience of working within a nursing team on an In-Patient Unit and/or in the Community and be able to demonstrate evidence of commitment to developing skills and knowledge in specialist palliative care. Experience of nursing terminally ill patients is also essential.

    The Hospice recognises the growing demand for staff nurses and resource in the community to support patients requiring End of Life Care, both on the In-Patient Ward and in the Community.

    It is also recognised that specific skills and knowledge are required in order to deliver the best care possible and meet the complex needs of these patients. This rotational post will develop an individual who is able to work autonomously with excellent assessment and decision making skills but who also has the specialist knowledge and skills needed to support complexity thus equipping the post holder to work in a more senior role in the future in either care setting and increasing their employability.

    Princess Alice Hospice is one of the top ten adult hospices in the UK providing specialist palliative care in a superb purpose-built 28 bedded In-patient Unit and Day Hospice, and in the community within a ten mile radius of the Hospice.

    Following a successful trial at Princess Alice Hospice, we are now able to provide a Night Response Service seven days a week in partnership with Kingston and CSH-Surrey Clinical Commissioning Groups. We are now in a position to recruit Staff Nurses and build on our existing Princess Alice Hospice Night Nursing Team.

    We are looking for Staff Nurses experienced in palliative care and/or the community setting. The post holder will be expected to work flexibly on the Night Response Rota travelling with a Senior Healthcare Assistant (SHCA) to patients in their own homes. They will also support staff in nursing and residential homes with patients already known to the Hospice. The Night Response Nurses are based at the Hospice and support the Nurses on the In-patient Unit when not visiting patients in the community. The post holder may also be requested to join our excellent team of 8 to 8 Nurses who remain with patients and families overnight.

    This post will enable you to develop your skills in caring for patients towards the end of life and supporting them to die in the place of their choice. You will be supported by our Clinical Lead for the 8 to 8 Service and relevant Hospice staff including our out of hours telephone advice service.

    Experience in caring for patients who are terminally ill is essential. Due to the wide ranging catchment areas covered by the Hospice, applicants will need to have their own car with a full driving licence.

    About the role

    Are you an artist or do you have an interest in art?

    We currently have art volunteers encouraging patients in our Day Hospice to tap into their creative side and the results are amazing. We are keen to extend this service and use some of the new space in our re-designed reception area for patients and their carers to explore the therapeutic benefits of art.

    We would like to hear from any local artists or creative people who are happy to encourage small groups to use a variety of media.

  • Hospice Neighbour Volunteer (Richmond) Read more

    About the role

    Could you offer support to someone in their last year of life? Could you give their carer a much needed break? Do you have a few hours to spare each week and live in the borough of Richmond? Living with the knowledge that your life is near its end or caring for someone who is possibly in their last year of life can be a difficult and challenging time. Princess Alice Hospice, in association with the Richmond Clinical Commissioning Group and the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames, is launching a new service called ‘Hospice Neighbours’. The service is part of a wider initiative to support local people in their last year of life by enabling the person to make choices about their care, and access appropriate services to support them and their families. We are looking for local people who can volunteer a minimum of four hours a week to become a Hospice Neighbour to offer emotional and practical support to someone in their last year of life and to help give their carers a much needed break. This could include:

    • Keeping someone company – reminiscing about the past
    • Talking about worries the person may have
    • Helping around the house – making a sandwich, hanging the washing out, collecting a prescription, preparing a shopping list …
    • Taking the person out for a drive, escorting to appointments, helping with shopping.

    Volunteers will be supported with a programme of training and ongoing group supervision from the Princess Alice Hospice team.

    About the role

    All our shops welcome new volunteers but we are actively looking for volunteers in the following locations:

      • Esher
      • Egham
      • Staines
      • Chessington
      • East Sheen
      • Whitton (afternoons)
      • Teddington
      • Feltham

    Shop volunteers support the day-to-day running of our shops.

    Typical tasks include sorting, pricing and preparing goods for sale, serving customers and keeping the shop looking interesting and attractive.

    All our volunteers receive a group induction, on-the-job training and ongoing support, as well as further training and development opportunities.

    About the role

    If you have a few hours to spare during the week, love being behind the wheel and want to make a difference, then we need your help!

    Join our team of Volunteer Drivers bringing patients who live across Surrey, south west London and Middlesex to Princess Alice Hospice for appointments or Day Hospice activities.

    As a Volunteer Driver:

    • 70% of our patients rely on volunteer transport to get to the Hospice, so whatever time you have to spare, morning or afternoon, you will receive a huge ‘thank you’ from us and our patients
    • you will receive a mileage allowance (currently 45p per mile)
    • if you don’t want to use your own vehicle, we also need Volunteer Drivers for our specially adapted vehicles.

    We are particularly interested to hear from potential volunteers living in Ashford/Staines, Banstead/Epsom/Tadworth and Twickenham/Whitton.
