Dragon Boat Challenge
Sunday 19 July 2009
If you are looking for a great day out by the river, then do not miss the annual Rotary Dragon Boat Challenge at Canbury Gardens, Kingston upon Thames.
Princess Alice Hospice is this year’s chosen charity, so we are encouraging our supporters to get involved in what has proven to be a fantastic and unique fundraising challenge in recent years.
Hundreds of competitors – making up a maximum of 36 teams – will battle it out on the river from 10am on Sunday 19th July 2009 to determine who will make it into the exciting six boat final and a chance to win the Challenge Cup, which takes place around 4pm.
Market stalls, sideshows, bouncy castles and rides for the kids all help to make this a fun filled day, which has raised thousands of pounds for local charities during the past decade – and we hope everyone taking part raises lots of money for Princess Alice Hospice this summer!
All you need to take part is:
A team of at least 12 people (maximum 16) – NB: there is a minimum age limit of 14 years and youth groups will be welcome provided they are covered by insurance and have parental / guardian consent.
No previous experience is necessary as training will be given. Crews of mixed abilities, male and female, and those with disabilities are all welcome.
An entry fee of £350 per team, which is simply to cover the costs of hiring the boats and organising the event.
A competitive / creative streak – the Dragon Boat Challenge Trophy will be awarded to the winners and there will be also be runners up, ladies and youth team trophies too. A cash prize will be awarded to the winning crew’s nominated charity and to the team raising the most sponsorship; there will even be a trophy for the team sporting the best headgear on the day!
